Divorce, Child Custody
and
Family Law

At Arter Law Offices, we understand that going through a divorce is one of the most difficult issues many of our clients will face. The Decisions you make during this process can have a lasting impact on your family, your assets, and your finances. We handle everything from simple uncontested dissolutions to extremely contentious divorce litigation matters, involving extensive assets and complex child custody issues.

No matter how simple or complex the scope of your case is, we will work tirelessly to protect your rights and ensure that all agreements, property divisions, and custody arrangements are fair to you and your children.

Attorney Arter has extensive experience handling a wide range of spousal and child support arrangements, including cases where one or both spouses are considered high-earners. Support may be ordered to be paid by either or both parties and is decided based on a comparison of their gross incomes.

In the case of child support you might be entitled to modifiy an existing order.  The loss of a job, the changing needs of growing children, and other events can bring about the need to make changes in the amount of child support after a divorce . If you feel that your financial situation or your children’s situation has sustained a material change in circumstance and that a modification is in order, we will work hard to achieve a workable solution for all concerned.

Even after the arrangements of your divorce have been worked out, and the ink on the papers is dry, a situation might occur which requires post-divorce support from a Massachusetts custody lawyer. Either you or your ex may lose a job, one of you may need to move to another state, an income might increase or decrease dramatically or one of you might find a new partner and remarry. To prevent any future problems, it's essential that you work with a custody attorney to modify the order. The staff at Arter Law Offices is ready to help you handle the details of the situations. Handling divorce, custody and modifications are a daily occurrence for Attorney Arter and her team.

Attorney Arter is also a trained Divorce Mediator and Conciliator and can assist you in mediating your divorce case before it escalates into a lengthy court battle.  Our mediation services could save you thousands of dollars and years of litigation, in matters where the parties are interested in resolving their outstanding divorce and custody issues amicably.

Keep in mind that in order to succeed in a personal injury lawsuit, there are a number of things one must keep in mind. One of the most important is what is called the 'statute of limitations'. Many people miss out as they do not realize that there is only a small window of time in which a person who is injured may file a lawsuit. That window varies depending on the nature of the claim. Generally speaking, those timelines are:

  • Personal Injury: 3 years

  • Wrongful Death: 3 years

  • Medical Malpractice: 3 years

  • Product Liability: 3 years

  • Workers’ Compensation: 4 years

Don't lose out on your opportunity to protect your rights and proceed with your claim.  Contact us today so that we can protect your rights.

Worker's Compensation

Injured at Work?  Arter Law Offices can help you get the benefits you deserve.

Workers’ compensation in Massachusetts is a benefit required by law pursuant to Massachusetts law, Chapter 152.  The intent of workers’ compensation is to provide a means for injured workers and/or their families to collect weekly wage loss benefits for total and partial disability, medical costs, vocational re-retraining expenses, death benefits, funeral costs and other costs associated with being injured on the job.

Workers who are injured or become ill as a result of an accident or incident that occurs within the course and scope of employment are eligible for benefits purusant to Massachusetts law.

In fact, under Massachusetts law the insurance company is obligated to pay the attorney’s fee if you win after a hearing at the Department of Industrial Accidents.  You may pay no money at all out of your pocket for our services.

Some of the successful workers’ compensation claims we have obtained for clients include:

  • Auto accidents

  • Falls

  • Machine injuries

  • Illness related to job stress

  • Burn accidents

  • Lifting injuries

  • Violence in the workplace

  • Construction accidents

  • Scaffolding accidents

  • Crane Accidents

  • Elevator or escalator accidents

  • Repetitive stress, joint and nerve injuries

  • Exposure to dangerous chemicals or toxic materials

  • Heavy machinery accidents

  •

Type of benefits to which a worker is entitled will depend heavily on extent of injuries.  From

Partial Disability Benefits, Disfigurement and/or Loss of Function, Total Disability Benefits to Total and Permanent Disability and Death Benefits, we will make sure you get the benefits you are entitled to.

Under Massachusetts workers’ compensation law’s exclusive remedy provision, employees covered under workers’ compensation can’t sue their employer for additional recovery. However, if there are other responsible parties aside from the employer, they may be held accountable in a civil lawsuit. For example, if a worker is injured due to a machine malfunction, the manufacturer of that machine may be pursued in third-party litigation. Similarly, if a worker is injured in an auto accident, the at-fault driver/insurer may be sued.

It’s important to note that just because workers are covered for work-related accidents, illnesses and injuries does not mean securing compensation will be a simple, straightforward process. That’s why it’s so critical to hire an attorney experienced in workers’ compensation law in Massachusetts.
